There’s Gold in Them Thar Hills: Making the Most of an RPG Formatted Dump

This session focuses primarily on reading an RPG formatted dump and identifies all information provided by the system. In addition, learn how to interpret the results to prevent future errors using simple error trapping techniques. Finally, we will review commands that provide the programmer with useful system and database information, which are valuable for debugging. Learning Objectives: By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Make the best use of an RPG formatted dump, and some methods to guarantee one is generated.
  • Understand the somewhat cryptic RPG values returned by the system.
  • Understand how the data on a formatted dump correlates to data available during program execution.
Audience: Programmers of any skill level who don't consider an RPG formatted dump as a valuable asset in your development toolkit.
