iSeries Navigator Database Tools
Sharon Hoffman

iSeries Navigator Database Tools
Beginning with V5R1, IBM has added significant new database tools to iSeries Navigator, the no-charge GUI interface to OS/400. As of V5R2, the iSeries Navigator database tools include Database Navigator, which creates a graphical map of the relationships between database objects, Run SQL, which lets you write and save SQL scripts, SQL Assist, which builds SQL statements interactively, Visual Explain, which analyzes query performance, and Generate SQL, which creates SQL statements based on a database object such as a physical file -- no DDS source code required. In addition, you can use iSeries Navigator to modify file layouts, view data, specify triggers (both external and SQL), and define constraints. This session illustrates the iSeries Navigator database support and discusses how you can use these functions to manage increasingly complex iSeries databases.
