Server-side Java with Servlets: An introduction
This presentation introduces iSeries programmers with the architecture of server-side Java. It will show how easy it is for an iSeries programmer to develop host applications and it will explain why Java servlets perform better than RPG servers. By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

  1. Understand the architecture of Server-side Java with servlets.
  2. Know the required Java syntax of a Java servlet.
  3. Understand the power inherent to Java servlets (Cookies, HTTP headers, parms, etc.)

Don Denoncourt   is a Java evangelist who has taught more than 700 hours of Java seminars to AS/400 and iSeries programmers in various cities across the United States. He spent 10 years in the world of business application design using RPG and Cobol before one day beginning to wonder whether there was more to programming than structured applications. Five years as a C++ systems programmer at ASNA taught him the tenets of object-oriented programming, and he has preached its gospel ever since. According to Don, “The way is object-oriented programming; the language of the way is Java.” Don is a contributor to iSeries NEWS and was a senior technical editor for Midrange Computing.
